Morrison BMW Cahir Park Golf Club Pro-Am
With breakfast in full swing by 7 am and the cark park filling up the stage was set for another great day in the park. An array of BMW cars were on display around the clubhouse and first tee box from this year’s title sponsor was Morrison BMW.
Months of prep went into organising our second Pro-Am by Rosemary Maher, Arthur O Donnell, Liam Nelligan, Marie Devitt, Paul Eivers, Susan Carey, Liam Wall, Jim Cantwell and David Ryan and what was about to unfold made it worthwhile.
By 8 am the carpark was full to capacity and our stewards were starting to fill the overflow car parks. The buzz around the place was electric. Professionals and amateurs alike hitting balls in our driving range while others were simply chatting.
At 8.30am the first of the shotgun starts got underway with dry fairways and a slight breeze. A major focus on the 3rd hole with a brand new BMW up as a hole in one prize. Many came close but it was not claimed.
Simon Thornton of Tulfarris Hotel and Golf Resort was the clubhouse leader after the morning session on a score of -5 (66).
Between the morning and evening tee-off times, we held a free golf clinic with Robert Coles, Adam Dunmore, Mark Whelan and Stephen Quinlan. Thanks to all who attended.
Play got underway again at 2.30pm with our head professional David Ryan with the honour on the 1st tee box.
The course was in great shape and a credit to Declan and his staff. We would also like to thank Keith and his staff in the bar and restaurant and Kate in the office. A team effort helped make the day a major success.
Simon Thornton held on to claim 1st place one shot ahead of Philip Walton, David Higgins, Michael McGeady, Brian McElhinney and David Ryan all on -4, tied second. For a full set of Pro, results see https://pgaireland.bluegolf.com/bluegolf/pgaireland19/event/pgaireland1944/contest/1/leaderboard.htm
