Mary McKenna Diamond Trophy Competition
Cahir Park Ladies said goodbye this week to the dream of contesting the latter rounds of the Mary McKenna Diamond Trophy Competition.
On Friday, a strong Clonmel team arrived at Cahir Park to contest part 2 of round 1 of the competition.  Previous week, Cahir Park left Clonmel G.C. with 2 wins to Clonmel Ladies 3 wins.  So, minimum 3 matches had to be won for a Play-off and 4 for outright success.  The dream was not to be and a very sporting Clonmel team secured victory on the 18th Hole.   Team Managers,  Ger Lyons,  Margaret Costello and Bernie English were disappointed but acknowledged the strength of the Clonmel pairings and were proud of the Home Team and the battles played with courtesy throughout the matches.   Cahir Park was represented by Susan Carey and Patricia Browne,  Breda Keating and Mary Kenrick, Kathleen Lonergan and Breeda Wall, Deirdre O’Neill and Margaret Gill, Kathleen Alton and Rosemary O’Donnell.   Well done to the Managers and to teams and everyone on the Panel and better luck next year.
Congratulations to Clonmel and best wishes for continued success in the competition.
Women’s Munster Trophy,  Singles Matchplay
The weather God’s played havoc on the golf courses on Tuesday 14th May.  Whether it was Zeus, the Greek God of rain and dreadful weather or Jupiter, the Roman God of all bad weather,  and whichever choose to visit South Tipperary, their presence was definitely felt on Tuesday evening.  Cahir Park Ladies played Co Tipperary G.C. in the third round of the Women’s Munster Trophy Singles Matchplay competition,  with three matches in Cahir Park and two in Co Tipperary G.C.   Our team of Patricia Browne, Margaret Gill and Rosemary O’Donnell teed off after heavy downpours in Cahir Park.   Anne Fitzgerald and Rosemary Maher and their caddies, Lisa Blackett and Caroline Maher,  together with the Dundrum Ladies were soaked from the off and apart from a break for evening sunshine for approximately fifteen minutes,  the unrelentless rain never ceased.  Good competitive golf was played in good humour and the Co Tipperary Ladies won 3-2 .  A very enjoyable evening followed in both Clubhouses and Co Tipperary (Dundrum) Ladies are wished success in their next round.   Team Managers for Cahir Park Ladies were Ann O’Brien and Anne Fahy.   Well done to everyone on the panel.
