The Tim Shanahan Memorial Cup was played for over the June Bank Holiday weekend and again resulted in very competitive golf of a high standard. Being the sixth round of our Golfer of the Year challenge, it was an 18 hole stroke play from the back tee markers. Sean Nugent (19) emerged victorious with a fabulous 64 net, 3 shots clear of runners up Jim Cantwell (20) and David Beckett (14). Adrian Lonergan (4) won the gross.
Last Saturday’s Stableford had four category winners in Eoin Ahearne, Pat McEvoy, Jimmy Butler and Ned Grant. Well Done Boys.

Inter Club Competitions
Over the June Bank Holiday weekend three men’s teams were in action; The Jimmy Bruen, Senior Cup and Straffan Cup all fought well, but alas, all went down fighting, the Jimmy Bruen to Mitchelstown, the Senior Cup to Tipperary GC and the Straffan Cup to Newbridge GC.  We thank the managers Paul Adamson, Don Quill, Paul Eivers and Sean Casey for the hard work and time they put into it, as we also thank all panels and players for their time and effort in practice and playing. We also wish our opponents the best of luck as they progress.
Our Mixed Fourball team had better luck at home to Templemore on the bank holiday Saturday, eventually coming out on top on the fourth playoff hole after finishing tied after four matches. Well done to managers Liam Wall, Cathy O’Gorman, the players and all panel members on a great win. Next up is an away match against Tipperary GC on June 21st, the longest day. Let’s hope it’s not as long a day as the last one!
Last Sunday our Junior Cup team travelled to Dundrum to take on County Tipperary GC in the first round. Again, as seems to be our fate this year, we were part of a great tussle of a very high standard but in the end lost out on the 18th and went down 3-2. A big thank you to managers Eoin Ahearne and Susan Carey, as well as panel and players for a great effort. We wish Dundrum the best of luck in their efforts to progress.
Prize Giving
The next prize giving event will take place in the clubhouse on Saturday, 21st June between 6 and 6.30 PM. Would all players who have won a weekend prize between 18th May and including next weekend’s Vice Captain’s Prize please be in attendance. The John and Breda Ryan Memorial Cup and the Tim Shanahan Memorial Cup will both be presented on the night and it is hoped to have some family members present to present both cups. All other weekend prizes will also be presented.
Catering
A warm welcome to Gihan Eatery who took over the Bar and Restaurant at the club last Thursday. They have kept on some familiar faces along with new staff. We encourage all of you to show your support to Gihan and come in after a game and have a snack or a meal or a drink.
Shay’s Shop
Our head PGA professional Paul Eivers recently opened “Shays Shop” at the half way point of the course offering snacks and a selection of golf accessories. Best of luck to Paul and the team with this venture.
