Here, There and Everywhere…

It was difficult to keep up with the numerous Interclub Competitions being played by Cahir Park Teams over the last two weeks.  Some matches were at Home, but most were Away venues.  And there was losses, wins, trauma, and ecstatic joy.

The Men’s Fred Perry Team lost to Thurles.  The Jimmy Bruen Team won as did the Pierce  Purcell Team v Templemore 3-1, with the last match won on the 18th.   Second Rounds beckon within the next two weeks and further details in next week’s report.  Congratulations to all Teams and Managers

 

Men’s Junior Cup

Cahir Park Junior Cup Team played Slievenamon G.C. at home on Sunday 12th and enjoyed good success.  The Cahir Park team of Eoin Carey, Cormac O’Flaherty,  Steven Barnes, Barry McGuckin and David Leonard was ably managed by Eoin Ahearne and Susan Carey.  Congratulations and good luck in round two.

 

Mixed Teams

Cahir Park Mixed Foursomes Team went down to a strong Co. Tipperary G.C. Team two weeks ago.  Co Tipperary (Dundrum) Club is the reigning Munster East Champion Club in this Competition and best wishes are extended for continued success.

On Saturday,  11th May, Cahir Park G.C. played Co Tipperary G.C. again, in Golf Ireland Mixed competition,  this time, the Mixed Fourball and Cahir Park came out on top winning comprehensively.   The Cahir Park Team of John Molloy and Kathleen Lonergan,  Philip Hayes and Susan Carey,  Donal Mullane and Deirdre O’Neill, Euan Phelan and Kathleen Alton won 3 matches and the fourth team was called in going onto the 16th, all square.  Congratulations to Team, Panel and Managers, Mary Lyons,  Cathy O’Gorman and Liam Wall on great success and best wishes v. Cobh G.C. in the next round.

 

Ladies Matches and Results 

Cahir Park Ladies Minor Foursomes Team played Tipperary Ladies on the beautiful Tipperary Golf Club Course on Bank Holiday Monday.  Both Clubs won 2 matches each and therefore,  sudden death playoff followed with Cahir Park losing by a putt on the 19th.  The Cahir Park team of Pauline Mulcahy and Bernie English,  Geraldine Lyons and Geraldine Cooney, Noreen Hally and Anne Walsh,  Breeda Wall and Marie Devitt enjoyed great games with a strong Tipperary team and wish Tipperary Ladies success in the next round.   Team Managers for Cahir Park,  Miriam Halley and Deirdre O’Neill are truly appreciated for all the work they put in with the Team.  Better luck next year.

 

Revive Active

Our Revive Active Women’s Munster Fourball Team played Faithlegg G.C., also on Bank Holiday Monday.   With two matches played in Cahir Park and three away at Faithlegg,  the Waterford Ladies proved to be the stronger team and are wished success in their next round.  Thank you to Cahir Park Ladies and Team Manager Chris Noonan.  Again, better luck for 2025.

 

Mary McKenna Diamond Trophy 

The roller coaster comes around very fast!

Another exciting adventure awaits as the Mary McKenna Diamond Trophy Competition kicks off.  Cahir Park Ladies travelled to Clonmel G.C. on Tuesday 7th May to play the Clonmel Ladies in part one of the First Round and won two of the five Fourball matches.  Clonmel G.C. Ladies travel to Cahir Park on Friday 17th May for part two, the return matches.

The Cahir Park team panel members playing on the 7th were :  Margaret Gill,  Breda Keating, Mary Lyons,  Deirdre O’Neill,  Kathleen Alton,  Kathleen Lonergan, Mary Kenrick,  Chris Noonan,  Susan Carey,  Patricia Browne.   Team Managers are Geraldine Lyons,  Margaret Costello and Bernie English.  Best wishes for success on Friday.

 

Morrisons Pharmacy sponsored Open Day 

Thursday 9th May was a delightful Day.  The first really warm sunshine filled day and the Golf balls enjoyed the bounce on the impeccable Fairways and the tricky fast Greens.   Many thanks to the Course Team for fantastic work over the past weeks.  The Course was in excellent condition for the first Ladies Open Day of the year.

Very kindly sponsored by Morrisons Pharmacy Cahir, the 3 Ball Better Ball Stapleford competition over 18 holes was well supported.

The winning team of Susan Morrison,  Joanne Quaid and Una Burke (Clonmel) brought in 79pts.  Runners-up were Mary Kenrick, Eleanor Carroll and Mary Comerford,  with 75pts.  Third position went to A. O’Donoghue,  A. Kinane Creamer and M. Whelan (Tipperary) 73pts.

Find the Golf Ball 

Many are wondering is the Golf Ball out of bounds because it seems lost in the Clubhouse!

Two more draws and no sign of the elusive card with the golf ball.   However, Gerry Rogers went home on Saturday 11th May with a box of Pro V1s after his card, number 7 was turned and revealed this super prize.  Congratulations Gerry.   On Captains Drive-in Day,  the previous Sunday 5th May,  Maurice Quinlan won the weekly prize of €20, having turned his card number 41.  There are not many more cards to turn, so keep playing.   Someone will win the jackpot soon.  Value next Saturday is €1,240.

Congratulations Golf Professionals

Cahir Park Golf Club Committees and Members extent Congratulations to Colin O’Gorman and Dylan Burke, both of whom recently were awarded with Membership of PGA.  Colin and Dylan commenced their golfing careers in Cahir Park as teenagers and won many accolades for the Club over the years.   They now set out on exciting career of Club Professionals and are wished much success in the future.   Congratulations Colin and Dylan.
